In 2009, a pornographic video began circulating widely on the Internet. In the video, a group of individuals dressed as FARC guerrillas subject a woman to brutal sexual violence, using a musical score and editing techniques designed to sensationalize the assault. The face of the woman had been digitally altered using photo editing software to resemble Ingrid Betancourt.

The circulation of this video is a form of revictimization. Each view and share of this material contributes to the digital torture of a survivor of real-world violence. Any content related to this hoax represents a violation of Ingrid Betancourt’s dignity and a disturbing endorsement of fabricated digital violence.

: Seized by the Colombian military in December 2007, this footage showed a gaunt Betancourt staring blankly at the ground against a jungle backdrop. Her family described her as appearing "very feeble" and in "very bad physical condition".

Betancourt condemned the JEP's decision as a "total impunity" for the perpetrators. In response, her legal team announced plans to take the case to international courts, arguing the ruling disrespects victims' rights and fails to provide proportionate punishment.

During her captivity, Betancourt endured conditions that defied human dignity. She was for hours—and sometimes days—at a time. She suffered from malnutrition, malaria, and chronic health problems. She was beaten, humiliated, and forced to march for days through treacherous rainforest terrain. On five separate occasions, she attempted to escape; each time, the jungle itself—vast, hostile, and unforgiving—forced her back into captivity.

The video is a digital forgery. Sharing it or even claiming it is real perpetuates a lie that damages the reputation of a real person who has already endured unimaginable suffering.

Even a cursory review has revealed a multitude of inconsistencies that distinguish it from a guerrilla camp in the Colombian jungle:

During her six-and-a-half-year captivity (2002–2008), the FARC released several "proof of life" videos to the International Committee of the Red Cross

: While some media reports used the word "rape," Betancourt herself has been more selective in her public descriptions. She noted that she avoided explicit details about certain traumas out of "respect for the soul" and her family, though she confirmed being "brutalized" and "sexually abused". Physical Degradation
